John 21:3 - 6
3Simon Peter said to them, “I am going fishing.” They said to him, “We are going with you also.”They went out and immediately got into the boat, and that night they caught nothing. 4But when the morning had now come, Jesus stood on the shore; yet the disciples did not know that it was Jesus. 5Then Jesus said to them, “Children, have you any food?” They answered Him, “No.” 6 And He said to them, “Cast the net on the right side of the boat, and you will find some.” So they cast, and now they were not able to draw it in because of the multitude of fish.
The disciples spent all night fishing, but caught nothing. They had nothing to show for their time, resources, or labor. How often we are consumed with our own ideas and agenda? How much time do is spent trying to fulfill some purpose or desire in our lives? How many times have you tried to start that new business concept, or seek success through promotions, opportunities, networking, education, and still find yourself at the end of the day no better than when you
started?
Peter said, “I’m going fishing.” His boys were like, cool. Let’s do this. But they went in their own strength. Perhaps it was their habit to just role out. Maybe it’s your habit to just role out and do your own thing. No one can blame you. After all, it’s the way of our culture. Just Do It. The lesson I find in this scripture is that the blessing is not in the doing but in the obedience. The story goes on to say that Jesus saw them and told them to cast their net on the right side of the boat. No sooner they did, they could no longer draw the net because of the multitude of fish. It happened immediately. There was no waiting, and no delay.
If you’re caught up in the multitude of fish, you may have missed something very important. Jesus could see what they could not see. It wasn’t some magic trick or illusion. It was and it still is the supernatural power of God and the fact that he can do anything. We have to see him that way. It’s not in HOW he did it. That’s called a distraction and we spend too much time there. I encourage you to focus on the fact THAT he did it.
You want supernatural (God’s super on our natural) vision or supernatural sight? Then spend
time listening to the God of your salvation. Take the opportunity to hear what he’s saying to you about your moment. Stop trying to do it in your own strength. Stop trying to know everything. Stop trying to understand the process, and just trust the process. They received a word, obeyed Jesus, and received a multitude of fish. When we obey the voice of God, we operate in supernatural vision to receive a supernatural harvest. It’s harvest time! Are you ready?
Things to meditate on:
1. Develop an ear to hear and know the voice of God.
2. Be diligent to obey what he says regardless of whether you understand the purpose.
3. Expect a harvest. The Harvest is in your obedience.
